Privacy Policy for Bukusupe

Last updated: September 29, 2026

In short: Bukusupe processes your bookmarks only inside your browser.

Bukusupe does not transmit your bookmark data, URLs, titles, folder names, embeddings, or visualization data to external servers. The extension may download static machine learning model files and related resources from Hugging Face.

There is no analytics, no telemetry, no error tracking, no advertising, and no account. Bukusupe does not sell your data or share it with third parties.

What Bukusupe does

Bukusupe (“Bookmark Space”) is a Chrome extension that shows your Chrome bookmarks as stars in a night sky, arranged so that bookmarks with similar meanings sit close together. With it you can:

Bukusupe has a single purpose: helping you browse, find, and organize your own bookmarks. This policy covers the Chrome extension and the web demo published on GitHub Pages.

Accessed Data

Bukusupe accesses and creates the following data. None of it is personally identifying information such as your name or email address, and Bukusupe does not read your browsing history.

DataSource
Bookmark titles, URLs, folder structure, date added, and date last used Read from Chrome through the bookmarks permission. Bukusupe only reads bookmarks; it never creates, edits, moves, or deletes them.
Site icons (favicons) Displayed from the copy Chrome already keeps on your device (the favicon permission). Bukusupe does not fetch icons from the internet and does not store them.
Embedding vectors Numbers that represent the meaning of each bookmark, computed in your browser from its title, folder path, and URL.
Layout information Star positions and cluster names on the map, computed in your browser from the embeddings.
Constellations Created by you: the name, the bookmarks in it, and, if you made it from a search, the search words and their embedding; “new stars” you dismissed; the time it was saved.
Settings and screen state Display language, whether to show the sample universe, whether the first-run notice and hints were shown, and a temporary snapshot of the view (map position, search words, selection) used to resume when you press Back.

How the Data Is Used

The data above is used only to provide Bukusupe’s features: to place bookmarks on the map, to search them by meaning, to show and save constellations, to show site icons in flight mode, and to remember your settings. A bookmarked page is opened only when you choose it, as a normal page navigation.

Bukusupe does not:

The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Local Processing and Storage

All processing happens inside your browser. Embeddings are computed on your device with a bundled copy of ONNX Runtime Web (WebAssembly). There is no Bukusupe server. The data is stored in the extension’s own storage in your browser:

All program code (JavaScript and WebAssembly) is bundled with the extension. Bukusupe does not load or run code from outside the extension.

Data Sharing

Bukusupe does not share, sell, rent, or transfer your data to anyone. It does not use analytics, telemetry, crash or error reporting, or advertising services. Your bookmarks, embeddings, layout, and constellations never leave your browser.

Data Retention / Deletion

Third-Party Services

Hugging Face (model download)

To compute meanings, Bukusupe uses the open language model Xenova/multilingual-e5-small. After you press “Start” on the first-run notice (and again only if the browser’s cached copy is cleared), the extension downloads the model files (configuration, tokenizer, and ONNX weight files) from Hugging Face (huggingface.co and its delivery hosts under *.hf.co).

GitHub Pages (web demo and this page)

This page and the web demo are hosted on GitHub Pages. The web demo uses only bundled sample bookmarks and never reads your bookmarks. GitHub may log requests to these pages under the GitHub General Privacy Statement.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

If this policy changes, this page will be updated and the “Last updated” date revised. If a change would send more data out of your browser, it will be announced on this page and in the release notes before the version containing it is published.
